First Use: Curing the Clay

On first use, it is important to cure your fire feature slowly. Start with a small, gentle fire and gradually increase the heat over a few sessions. This allows the clay to adjust naturally and strengthens the structure over time. Avoid exposing it to extreme heat straight away.

Regular Cleaning

Once completely cool, remove ash using a soft brush or scoop. Do not use water on hot surfaces. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the natural finish. A simple dry clean is usually sufficient to keep your fireware in good condition.

Weather Protection

Although your Bluestone piece is designed to be water-resistant, prolonged exposure to heavy rain and standing water should be avoided. We recommend using a fitted protective cover when not in use for extended periods, especially during wet seasons.

Braai Grids and Metal Components

After each use, allow grids and metal parts to cool fully before cleaning. Wash off food residue, dry thoroughly, and apply a light coat of cooking oil to help prevent rust and extend lifespan.

Cracks and Natural Wear

Hairline surface cracks may appear over time due to heat expansion. This is a normal characteristic of kiln-fired clay and does not affect performance. If you notice deeper cracking or structural concerns, contact us for assessment.

Seasonal Care

If your fireware will not be used for a long period, ensure it is clean, dry, and covered. Check occasionally for debris or moisture build-up, particularly after heavy rain.
